Make a Difference in the Lives of Thousands of Children, Teachers and Families!

By encouraging an active and experiential study of the arts, McCallum Theatre Education advances the belief that all human beings are inherently creative. The education programs developed by the McCallum are designed to build on that creativity by equipping individuals with the skills necessary for a life-long engagement with the arts and an understanding of their essential contribution the enlightened citizenship.

Through our Aesthetic Education Program, we have long-term partnerships with approximately 30 schools, representing 175 classrooms and over 5,000 students. Children at these partner schools learn from and watch two live, professional productions of either dance, music, theatre and the visual arts. The live productions are further enhanced by teaching artists being imbedded in their classrooms and school educators receiving rigorous professional development training. Focusing on second, third and fourth grade classrooms, often enables young students to be exposed to the arts over multiple years. Each year, our ten McCallum Theatre Teaching Artists invest approximately 2,500 hours in conducting hands-on workshops in the classroom.

Our Field Trip Series gives school children the opportunity to “take a field trip” to the McCallum to see a morning or matinee production of a live performance. Featuring a diverse line-up of stellar companies and artists, this series of annual offerings help students befriend the performing arts, make powerful connections to the core curriculum, nurture curiosity and build creative and critical-thinking skills.
