A Plant [UnLtd] & Susanna Hamnett Production
Set in Denmark at 2 AM, three weary travelers find themselves in a hotel room, grappling with an unexpected will and a production of Hamlet to rehearse before morning. This new play written by Susanna Hamnett, with adapted text from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, masterfully blends tragedy and humor, exploring the challenges of family, forgiveness, and Shakespeare.
Real-life family members Susanna Hamnett, Joshua MacGregor, and Lily MacGregor portray the bereaved family of the once-great actor Henry Elder, who was slated to perform his career-defining solo Hamlet at the renowned Elsinore Shakespeare Festival. Despite his death, Henry Elder is determined to be present.
With Shakespeare’s Hamlet as the central theme, the play oscillates between the absurd, the funny, and the poignant. Hotel Elsinore premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022, where it won the Carol Tambor Incentive Award. It now embarks on its first US tour, making a stop at McCallum Theatre.
