“Stephan Moccio’s piano acts as the poet’s pen…” Billboard Magazine
When Stephan Moccio sits alone at a piano, he plays the truth. There are no filters. There are no boundaries. There are no walls. Instead, emotion surges from his heart through his fingertips and out of the very instrument itself. Such stark honesty defines his solo artistry. It’s why he’s quietly emerged as a global phenomenon with almost a billion streams and counting. It’s why he’s taken solo piano music into the cultural spotlight and continues to do so on his 2024 full-length offering, *Legends, Myths and Lavender* [Decca Records]. Once again, his vision relies on raw emotional expression above all.
“If you had to simplify the album in four words, those words would be, *‘Feel more, think less’*,” he observes. “The record is me coming to grips with my mortality. I’m a father, which I take very seriously. Now, I’m questioning how I want to approach music for the rest of my life. More than ever, I feel compelled to put out art that’s truthful, relevant, and moving. and I do that best when I’m at the piano.”
One of the most compelling artists in music today, Stephan Moccio possesses a rare power to express complex and nuanced emotions through melody alone. As a multiple Grammy and Academy Award-nominated composer, hit songwriter, arranger, and hit producer, his presence has resounded throughout popular culture. He has penned songs for the likes of Céline Dion (A New Das Has Come), Miley Cyrus (Wrecking Ball), The Weeknd (Earned It), Dua Lipa, Andrea Bocelli, Avril Lavigne, Seal, and many more. Notching seven *Billboard* Hot 100 hits and tallying over 5 billion streams and counting.
Moccio started learning piano at the age of three, and remembers being enchanted by a production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, before developing a love of everything from Debussy to Ravel, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, especially Romantic and Impressionist music.
“I needed to recalibrate musically and personally. Solitude and quietude, in a noisy world, are elements I have been craving for a long time. Naturally, it made sense to engage in an intimate conversation between myself and the instrument which has been faithful to me my entire life. Strip it down, one person, in one room, with one instrument.”
Stephan’s piano music is romantic, raw, and honest, revealing a sensual and vulnerable side of this multifaceted artist.
